As the Oakland Athletics prepare for their first home opener in West Sacramento, dozens of downtown and Old Sacramento businesses are offering baseball-themed food and drink deals to welcome fans across the Tower Bridge.
The Downtown Sacramento Partnership announced that 40 restaurants, bars and services are participating in a promotion aimed at drawing visitors before and after A’s games at Sutter Health Park. The ballpark, located across the river in West Sacramento, is about a 10- to 15-minute walk from the city’s core.
“We wanted to put something together to promote the downtown and Old Sacramento businesses throughout the A’s season in West Sacramento,” said Andrew LaFrance, business development manager for the Downtown Sacramento Partnership.
LaFrance said the organization expects nearly one million additional people to visit the area over the next five months.
Participating establishments are offering game-day menu items, happy hour discounts and specialty cocktails tied to the A’s return. Business owners anticipate a surge in foot traffic as baseball fans explore local venues.
“We have all these really vibrant restaurants and bars, really diverse offerings for a lot of the folks coming in to see the ball game,” LaFrance said. “And I know people have time before the game, after the game, to hang out and spend time with their fellow baseball fans.”
Where, what are the game day specials?
LaFrance said the initiative aimed to spotlight downtown and Old Sacramento businesses in a way that felt creative and engaging for the community.
“I think it’s a really special moment in time for Sacramento, for West Sacramento,” LaFrance said. “We have a huge population surge in terms of consumers looking for great drinks, great dining options, shopping experiences, all that downtown and Old Sacramento have to offer. … I think it’s really important for Sacramentans to support their local businesses.”

“Going to an Athletics game and making sure to visit your favorite restaurant or your favorite bar or to try something new is a great way to kind of celebrate the whole day instead of just going to the game and then going home,” LaFrance said. “I think people should interact with the community and really come out and support the business community as well as see the game.”
