The Adair County Commission met on Tuesday to discuss multiple topics, one being the “Missouri Farmers Care” becoming “Agri-Ready.”

The program is a voluntary program that recognizes counties actively supporting the health and vitality of agriculture in their county.

There are currently 74 “Agri- Ready” designated counties in the state of Missouri. We spoke with the Executive Director of Missouri Farmers Care to discuss why having Adair County get an “Agri- Ready” designation would benefit the community.

“This will create new opportunities at home through business development, creation, entrepreneurship, support and promoting agriculture in Adair County,” said Ashley McCarty, Executive Director of Missouri Farmers Care. “We hope that people can take advantage of the opportunities that this will create and the business-conducive environment that Adair County is looking to have.”

Adair County saw an economic boost of $147.8 million in agriculture in 2021.

There is currently a Confined Animal Feeding Operations Ordinance in place that is under review.

Adair County plans to dissolve this ordinance in order to confirm its status an “Agri-Ready” county designation.
