They may look like dogs, but coyotes are so different. They can be dangerous! Which is why people were stunned by one man, who not only keeps a coyote as a pet but plays with the animal like she’s a Golden Retriever. The man recently shared a video where he attempted to “boop” his coyote’s nose and people online were shook.
It takes a brave person to pal around with a coyote. You never know what to expect.
Thankfully, it seems like this coyote has been domesticated and lives with her humans. Something tells us they’ve attempted to boop her nose a few times in the past.

The man tapped the coyote’s nose twice while the animal had her mouth wide open and her teeth were bared. He’s so brave!
“Honey, we’ve got the best taxidermist in the word,” he joked in the video. “She’s so lifelike!”
She was more than lifelike, she’s a real coyote with some really sharp teeth.
The comments section was pleasantly surprised by the duo’s playful bond. “I like to imagine this is what it was like when ancient people were taming wolves,” one person mused. “I’m convinced we could be kind enough to every animal and eventually they would integrate into our culture. This is so beautiful,” praised another commenter. “Twenty seconds in and I’m like that ain’t no dog,” one person joked. “Even if she was a little vicious, after watching this video I WANT A COYOTE!!” exclaimed someone else.
Do Coyotes Make Good Pets?
In truth, it is almost never advisable to keep a coyote as a pet. They aren’t meant to be domesticated animals. Some people who have a lot of experience with animals might have better luck caring for a coyote. But for most of us, keeping a coyote should be a straight no-no.
Remember, coyotes aren’t dogs. They can’t be trained to do tricks or listen to commands. They also have a very specific diet that would be hard for most humans to supply. Coyotes might even feed on birds or chicken that you have on your property. So it wouldn’t be wise to own one if you have other animals around.
Coyotes can also be very territorial and aggressive to people (or animals) that they don’t know very well. It wouldn’t be wise to have a coyote in a home with children or bring them around strangers. There are laws that prevent coyote ownership, so check with your state and county to see what is permitted.
Ultimately, coyotes are wild creatures for a reason. They need to be on their own to be truly happy.
