FOREST COUNTY, Wis. (WAOW) — A 16-year-old in Forest County is in custody after allegedly making terroristic threats on social media.
The Forest County Sheriff’s Department says on Tuesday, January 28 at around 10 a.m., they received information from the The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation about a social media post.
The social media post said “I am going to shoot up Lincoln High School at 12:30.”
The FBI and Wisconsin DOJ were able to determine the post was made from an address within Forest County.
The Forest County Sheriff’s Office determined a possible suspect and responded immediately to a home in the Town of Wabeno. The Forest County Dispatch Center was also in contact with several other law enforcement agencies that had a Lincoln High School in their jurisdiction.
At approximately 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, a 16-year-old juvenile suspect was taken into custody for making the post.
The juvenile has been placed in a secure detention facility for making terroristic threats.
The Sheriff’s Department says they take these types of threats very serious and they will not be tolerated. They say protecting schools and the children who attend them is of upmost importance.
