Citrus bloom is here, and your citrus trees need your help!

During this critical part of the citrus life cycle, flowers are fragile and highly vulnerable to wind, frost, disease, and water irregularities. In order to ensure a profitable season full of healthy trees, growers should be strategic in the irrigation, fertilization, and overall care of their citrus.

Our FGS supply centers offer all the major plant nutrients that growers need during citrus bloom. In addition to nitrogen, which is always helpful for a plant’s growth stage, we carry micronutrients like phosphorus, zinc, boron, potassium, and calcium, all of which can help boost the success of the flowering stage. By applying these micronutrients in the right manner,  such as foliar applications, growers can cut down on common issues like misshapen flowers, fruiting issues, and crop loss.

Efficient irrigation is important during this time, as well. Like all plant life, citrus flowers need water to grow, but too much moisture during bloom can create a number of issues, from fungal infections to pathogens like Colletotrichum acutatum. That’s why we recommend drip irrigation, which is far more effective than overhead irrigation in delivering precise volumes of water. Even better, drip irrigation won’t disturb bee activity, meaning your plants can receive the water they need without disrupting the crucial process of healthy bee pollination.

Most of our supply centers also feature their own irrigation departments, where you can talk to an expert about a custom-designed irrigation system that meets your specific needs. While you’re there, we’ll help you stock up on fertilizers, hoses, filters, and everything else you might need to help citrus bloom go the extra mile. If you’re too busy working in the orchard to pay us a visit in person, don’t worry — we’re just a phone call away, and our in-house irrigation construction crew will come to you. Happy citrus bloom!
