DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture will start testing milk at farms statewide Monday.

Officials said they are testing raw milk for the H5N1 flu virus.

They are working to identify where the virus is present, watch trends and prevent its spread to other dairy herds and poultry flocks.

There is no concern for the public milk supply as it is pasteurized and kills bacteria and viruses.

Officials said you should not consume raw or unpasteurized milk, cheeses or undercooked meat from animals with the virus.

Farms found to have H5N1 will quarantine for 30 days. To date, no human cases have been found in Minnesota.

Department of Health officials said the risk to the public of getting sick at this time remains low.
