NOAA Fisheries has implemented monkfish quotas for the 2025 fishing year, based on specifications approved by the New England and Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Councils.
The quotas for the Gulf of Maine/Northern Georges Bank and Southern Georges Bank/Mid-Atlantic stocks are being rolled over from fishing year 2024, and not disrupt the May 1 start of the monkfish fishing year on May 1. The acceptable biological catch and annual catch limit is 6,224 metric tons for the northern area and 5,861 metric tons for the south.
