MANKATO — An 82-year-old died in a farm accident Monday afternoon in rural Mankato.
The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Gerald Orville Fredricks in a release Tuesday.
The incident occurred 2:02 p.m. on 570th Avenue in Lime Township Section 19.
A preliminary investigation indicated Fredricks unintentionally started a tractor in his yard while it was in gear. He was reportedly standing near a rear tire at the time before the tractor ran him over, the release states.
The tractor stopped when it ran into a UTV parked in front of it. Emergency crews attempted life-saving efforts but were unsuccessful.
