A homicide investigation is underway in Forest City after a man was found dead in a home on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025.

Forest City police say officers were initially called to a reported home invasion at 114 Harris Lee Drive around 9:50 a.m., when responding officers found the dead man inside.

Officers found Tyler D. Weaver, 25, lying on the floor of the home, and the Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services determined that Weaver died from his injuries, according to the Forest City Police Department.

Forest City Police Chief Chris LeRoy said Weaver’s girlfriend was also there but ran out of the house and called 911.

The police department stated that law enforcement searched the woods surrounding the home and canvassed the neighborhood to locate any suspects and ensure the safety of residents.

Investigators determined that whoever was involved had left.

“They secured the main wooded area around it to make sure the neighbors and everything else were safe, while searching for the suspect,” LeRoy said.

Police and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office secured the area, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are actively looking for at least one person, but so far, they haven’t released any other details on a possible suspect.

LeRoy said they’re still investigating how Weaver was killed.

“It appears to be from blunt force trauma, but we don’t really know that. Again, that’s one of those unanswered questions that we don’t want to really speculate to at this point,” LeRoy said.

So far, nothing’s been released on a possible motive. LeRoy said they’re actively pursuing leads in the case.

“At this point, we have about 3 or 4 different leads, kind of in different directions, so we’re working to kind of filter out what the validity of any of those leads are,” LeRoy said.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with processing the crime scene for forensic evidence.

Police said there is “no indication of an ongoing danger to the public.”

Authorities said they will release more information as the investigation progresses.
