(WHTM) — Ten million dollars are going to small farms in Pennsylvania, those state grants were announced Monday.

Some of that money is coming to farms right here in the Midstate. It’s all apart of the nation’s first – agricultural innovation grant program. The goal – to help Pennsylvania farms move into the future – by funding innovation and sustainability.

“You cannot talk about agriculture today in any form in this state without recognizing that it’s leading on innovation,” Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding said. “It is what has brought us here in so many respects, but it’s also paramount to our future.”

Governor Shapiro’s administration announced the recipients of this state funding earlier today – at Brubaker Farm in Lancaster County.

Josh Brubaker – the owner of that dairy farm – had a lot of good things to say about this program – and what it will do for his farm’s future. In fact – they are getting four hundred thousand dollars of this funding – for an anaerobic digester.

“As I look to the future, you know, we’re always looking for new innovation,” Brubaker said. “Being the fourth generation on my farm, I don’t want it wanted to stop at the fourth generation. So I’d love to see the next generation someday take over. So knowing that the state supports us in that way, it gives me hope that that is that is a reality for our our dairy farm.”

A total of 25 farms got funding from the program, almost every county in the Midstate received a grant.
